I bought this Ice Maker in August. When finally delivered and installed, I found that it didn't work. I contacted Kitchen Aid. After going through their hoops to have it checked out, the service man said I was correct--it need a fan of some sort. Kitchen Aid said they would replace it. Now trouble begins. I was told Whirlpool Corp. would contact me. They did. I wasn't home and a number was left for me to call back. I have been calling this number back for days and the phone is never answered. I have now held a total of 6 hours and still no answer. I have emailed Kitchen Aid and Whirlpool. Nothing!!! It is now Nov. and I still do not have an ice maker.

Great product from a great company. We bought this one to replace a similar model we had for 14 trouble free years. It was easy to install for this 70 year old and produces clear ice with very little noise for an ice machine. The MAX feature produces ice quickly for heavy use such as entertaining large groups. No running out to buy ice with this machine.

Great Machine, if you can keep it running

Purchased about 4 months ago, and worked great with plenty of clear cubes of ice, family loved it. Gravity drain directly down to a basement vented drain. One morning awoke to a loud squealing noise, melted ice and now wont make ice. I fear a compressor or water pump failure. Forget about anyone answering the phone for service, waited over 30 min twice and gave up. Sent an email and two weeks later was told there system couldn't upload my model and serial number and please respond by phone or chat! I will keep trying I guess. Will update with progress.

Great ice but machine broke in 3 months.

I purchased the new KitchenAid in June but did not receive delivery until August. Summer is almost over with. I purchased it to replace a similar 13-year-old KitchenAid icemaker. The old one still worked but it was just tired. The new one was easy to hook up and get running. It took a day or so for the ice chamber to begin to fill appropriately. The only drawback is that it produces a significant amount of heat. With the temperatures over 100° outside the icemaker creates an excessive amount of heat in our kitchen and family room. Other than that the icemaker is functioning flawlessly.

I Bought this ice machine sept 2015. recently(April 2018) it stopped working. whirlpool attempted to send a repair person out six times to no avail. Either the service providers decided they can't work on ice machines or either they did not show up. Whirlpool finally decided to send me a new unit last week. It was cleaned regularly with solution and filter was changed like clockwork. Let's hope the replacement lasts longer than 2 1/2 years!! Whirlpool was apologetic.

Great except for the mold

We love our ice maker, other than the constant buildup of black and red mold in the back of the unit where you are unable to reach it. When we had a repairman out for a separate issue (that was taken care of under warranty), he indicated ours was cleaner than most and that there's no way to clean it other than by completely disassembling the unit. He tried to convince us that it doesn't touch the ice, but during the cleaning process today, it's clear the mold is spreading to areas touched by water/ice. I live in a very dry state with no added humidity in the air and the mold formed before the first cleaning cycle, and we run the cleaning solution through it more frequently than recommended. I've had the unit for almost three years now and love the ice, but am concerned about the health effects of ingesting moldy ice.

My husband is thrilled!

Had to replace our Maytag ice maker. It died 10 days after the 5 year warranty ran out. The KitchenAid makes ice faster and is much quieter. For some reason, the door won't fit under our counter top, so the door and handle stick out farther than I would have liked, but its location next to the fridge makes it so no one will get caught on the handle. Also, tried to install a water filter...very tight, and after the installation, the machine stopped making ice. When I removed the filter, the ice maker worked fantastically! Hope to have this machine for a long time.

Great unit once complete

The unit works great once completely assembled, but does not come complete from manufacturer. Unless used with an in floor gravity drain system, an optional drain pump kit is required to complete installation. This optional kit is another $450 above the cost of the ice maker. Although the optional kit is documented in the installation manual, it would have been nice to know it was required at the time I purchased the ice maker, both from a fully known cost perspective, and the fact that the pump kit must be ordered and requires about 2 weeks to receive.

Major Headache....

We bought this icemaker new from a local authorized dealer for our vacation home and have had nothing but problems. This icemaker has never worked. Worth the search

This is my second KitchenAid under-counter ice machine. My first KitchenAid ice machine lasted 17 years. When my original ice machine gave up the ghost I began searching for a replacement. I needed a 15" under-counter ice machine with a stainless steel door and a gravity drain. I looked at all makes and models and found KitchenAid, again, looked like the best option. However, the website makes it difficult to find the gravity drain. Finally I went into a retail location. A sales rep helped me find what I needed. The new ice machine has improvements over my old ice machine, like a built-in water filter. I'm looking forward to 17+ years of filtered ice from my new KitchenAid under counter ice machine. This is my favorite appliance in my kitchen.

KitchenAid has great appliances - But not Icemakers

I have had this ice maker for just over a year and it has gone out twice. Both times the water continues to run but it will not make ice. I have had the repair people out of fix it the first time and now (after just over a year and a repeat of the same issue) they want to charge me to fix it the second time. It is also very load compared to other icemakers I have had.

Within the first 3 months, the dealer had to replace the motor. Ice is good, but the bin never looks full. Now, a message is on the machine saying that it needs to be cleaned. I haven't had it 6 months yet. I had a Scotsman Ice Machine prior to this one. Wish I had stayed with them.

Love my ice maker

Bought this new kitchen aid ice maker to replace one that was in the home we purchased. It works great. Just need to get used to the noises.

Abundance of ICE!!

This is the best! KitchenAid has come a long way over the years in improving their ice makers. This is my third one in 18 years (moved & had to leave one behind) This model never skips a beat and is quiet and does not generate as much heat as others.

What, no filter included?!?

Our first KitchenAid ice maker lasted 11 years before requiring repair for a refrigerant leak and lasted another year after the repair. We installed the new ice maker yesterday around 5PM and had nearly a full bin of ice this morning. Our biggest disappointment (actually, my wife was mad as a hornet) is that there was no filter included with the ice maker. With the premium price for buying KitchenAid products, I expected a filter to be included. The instructions discuss the filter but do not mention that it is not included with the ice maker. I expected more than this from a premium brand.

Replacement

We had a similar one for years so bought the same as a replacement. The first one didn't work so refused to accept if it needed repair fresh from the factory. The replacement worked but not as well as it should have. A technician checked it and found a part had to be ordered and replaced. Since part installed, unit seems to be working ok but seems noisier than our old one and interior seems smaller. This one has water filter which the old one did not. Ice is good: nice and clear.

This is a great ice maker.

This is a great ice maker. My refrigerator ice maker could not keep up with the amount of ice my family was using. This one does. My family uses it all the time.

CHECK YOUR WATER FILTER!!!

So far I am quite pleased with this ice maker (our second one). BUT, I chose this model because of the integrated water filter. Much to my surprise, I cleaned the machine for the first time yesterday and went to replace the water filter to discover there was no filter installed. My installer never said anything and I just assumed one came with the unit - as it does with a new refrigerator . Quite disappointed that I have been using the unit for 9 months with no filter installed. My fault??????? An installation problem? Would love to hear from kitchen aid .
