Over time, you may find your washer machine is taking longer to finish the cycle, is leaving more water than needed after rinsing, and is generally leaving your wash unclean. If so, cleaning you washer machine filter might be a quick fix to an efficient laundry cycle.
First, turn off the hot and cold water from the faucet, there is no need to shut the water off for the entire house. Pull the knob out on the washer for a few seconds to relieve any pressure from the water hose and then push it back in. Then, unplug the washer from the electrical outlet.
Next, unscrew the hose fittings at the rear of the washer with pliers. Some water will drain from the hoses. Place a bucket or a towel underneath to catch the spill.
Now take a water-resistant vacuum, such as a Shop-Vac, and place it over the water inlets one at a time. As you turn the vacuum on over the inlets, tap the side of the inlet lightly with pliers to loosen debris. Continue until the inlet is free of any debris, and then repeat with the other inlet.
Replace the appropriate hose to the proper inlet and retighten. Turn the water back on from the faucet connection slowly. Check for leaks and tighten accordingly, if needed.
Plug the washer's electric cord into outlet, and you've just improved the efficiency of you washer machine. It should now wash, drain and rinse better than before.
